The grants, between $8,500 and $100,000, will offer immediate and short-term financial aid to organizations. Mayor Sylvester Turner supported the funding, highlighting the importance of the cultural sector to Houston's economy and community. The total funding of $5 million was provided by the Federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and was distributed in association with the Mid-America Arts Alliance. On September 5, 2023, the Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs (MOCA) confirmed the allocation of up to $100,000 in funding for 62 Houston Arts & Cultural organizations.
