I’m not going to offer a full review of Zootopia. What might today’s social justice mob think of something like Zootopia that explicitly frames the concept of prejudice around a police procedural? I can smell the smoke pouring out of their ears. Here were are at such an extreme moment in time where anything that portrays police in a positive light is being thrown on the proverbial book-burning pile, including, of all things, Paw Patrol. Well, the devil’s in the detail’s isn’t it? So what you get are people swearing up and down that art is always political and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with today’s entertainment. What’s lacking, though, is a sense of perspective. And I MIGHT be able to handle that if it were handled more artfully and even-handedly, but that didn’t happen.
When politics seemed to converge onto me from every angle I tried to retreat into entertainment. I had to look up the date on when Zootopia came out because even though it was 2016 it feels like ancient history now.
